Founded by volunteers, the Women’s Shelter and Support Center has grown through the compassion and commitment of this community. As we mark our 50th Anniversary and the opening of our new shelter, we honor everyone who has helped create safety and support for survivors through the decades.

The Women’s Shelter and Support Center is committed to serving victims of domestic violence through services and supportive housing options that meet the needs of the community. We endeavor to do this by incorporating the input of clients, volunteers, staff, and board members into these values and the future of the organization. We respect the unique experience of clients and staff, and we are committed to the preservation of our values. 

Vision Statement 

The Women’s Shelter and Support Center (WSSC) aspires to be a beacon of hope and resilience for survivors of domestic violence. We provide comprehensive support, including shelter options that align with the unique needs of our community. By valuing the insights of clients, volunteers, staff, and board members, we aim to cultivate an inclusive and responsive organization that honors individual experiences while steadfastly upholding our core values with a goal to help break the cycle of domestic violence.

Mission Statement 

Our mission is to offer temporary shelter and comprehensive services to individuals impacted by domestic violence. Through education, community leadership, and targeted advocacy, we strive to break the cycle of abuse and foster social change that empowers individuals to live safely, freely, and with dignity.  

Outreach

WSSC stands ready to assist clients, whether they choose to stay or leave. Our professional staff is equipped to help identify ways to enhance safety. Clients who have questions about their own situation or wish to gain a clearer understanding of their relationship, or individuals who seek to support someone else, WSSC is here 24/7. Our facilities are open around the clock and proudly accommodate pets. In addition, offices are in Kasson, Preston, and Rochester to extend our reach to those in need.

Services

Supportive housing

Emergency shelter and transitional housing are offered within safe and secure facilities. Meals, supplies, and transportation are available. Advocates are available 24 hours a day. Pets are welcome to stay with you in the shelter.

Community Outreach

We provide speakers to groups or organizations in our community looking to learn more about the shelter, our services, or domestic violence in general. If your group or organization is interested in more comprehensive information, we can design a custom training.  All training is free of charge.

24 Hour Crisis line

Staffed 24-hours a day, 7-days a week by trained advocates. The crisis line provides support and referrals to anyone seeking information about domestic violence. Compassionate and caring advocates are available at any time to talk about current or past situations and provide callers with information about community resources or the option of shelter services.

Reach out to an advocate to learn more about our resource center for computer/wi-fi access, legal advocacy, and community resources.
 

community advocacy services

Our caring and compassionate staff provides individual support, assistance with safety planning, housing options, transportation, assistance with criminal and civil court issues, protective orders, and help and connecting to eligible benefits. We are officed in Dodge, Fillmore, and Olmsted counties.

Support and information groups

Our weekly support and information groups offer the opportunity to share experiences in a supportive environment and learn about topics such as power and control and personal growth.
