Regional Shelter & International Shelter

Women's Shelter Inc's main focus is providing safe crisis housing to battered women and their children. Our philosophy is "No one deserve to be beaten" and we feel successful if we have kept one woman or child safe for one day. The Regional Shelter doors opened in 1979 and the International Shelter opened in 1993. The Regional Shelter serves primarily southeastern Minnesota. The International Shelter is primarily for immigrant battered women and their children.

Both shelters have well-trained, 24 hour, advocate and security staff. Our staff is multi-culture and multi-lingual. Advocates provide help with accessing community resources, court and welfare advocacy, transportation, accompaniment to appointments, help in finding affordable housing, and referral to employment and education services.

We have no residency requirement. The length of stay depends on the woman's safety needs. We welcome immigrant battered women and their children and if we can't speak your language, we will find someone who can.
