Children's Program

Women's Shelter's Children's Program provides services to the children of battered women. Ranging in ages from newborn to adolescent, with the help of two children's advocates and five Foster Grandmothers, the children receive services such as, parenting classes for the mothers, field trips, support group, child care, and general advocacy.

In 1996, Women's Shelter Inc. opened a Children's House School for the children who cannot safely attend public school because of family violence. Staffed by a teacher from the school district and a children's advocate, the Children's House School offers up-to-date curriculum in classes K-12. Although the Children's House School exists for safety reasons, the children also benefit from a multicultural education and learn nonviolent living skills as well as their regular public school education.
